CBMM Researcher Joins Sandia National Laboratories


Swarnagowri Vaidyanathan

Swarnagowri Vaidyanathan, a 2021 graduate from the Bioengineering program at the University of Kansas, accepted a postdoctoral position at the Sandia National Laboratories for Joint BioEnergy Institute. Located in Emeryville, CA, Dr. Vaidyanathan will be working on microfluidic technologies to build automated systems for techniques such as CRISPR, Electroporation, and droplet digital microfluidics.

During her time in the Soper group, Dr. Vaidyanathan worked on fabrication of a mixed-scale fluidic device for comprehensive molecular profiling from circulating markers.

Swarna successfully defended her dissertation on April 29, 2021. Her dissertation was titled, “Nano-Coulter Counter for Detection of SARS CoV-2 Viral Particles.” Members of her dissertation committee were Dr. Steven A. Soper, Dr. Robert Dunn, Dr. Lisa Friis, Dr. Sara Wilson, and Dr. Jenny Robinson.
